-The Things We cannot see-
"The things we cannot see:"
exposition à entre 2 murs, marseille
These photographs, created by dropping acrylic paint in water to form psychedelic atomic bombs of colour, invading silently the landscapes, creating an unseen menace
growing up in britain within an american family, i would spend hours sifting through our family photo album of my parent's life in america. Everything seemed rose tinted and magical, underlining my childhood vision of the american dream. my parents were young and beautiful and their life seemed to be constantly bathed in sunshine. Years later, in the wake of their broken marriage and simultaneously the unravelling of the american dream on the public stage, i found myself grappling to understand my personal history and that of the country i had been previously been so proud of.
This series was made in my studio in Marseille during the covid lockdown. The photos are made through assembling old family photos with photographs of paint being dropped in my aquarium. these are not made on photoshop except in some cases to just simply place them together as a collage.
